Why doesn't my boyfriend want me to go to an Anime convention?

He and some friends are going to Animazement in a few months, and I don't really know if I want to go or not, his friends think I should, but he thinks I shouldn't. I'm really just curious, I've never been to one, I kinda want to know what they're like since a lot of my friends have been at them before. My bf says I shouldn't go because he doesn't think I'll have fun.

Is it because I'm "not a true anime fan"? (My fav animes: Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist, Fooly Cooly, Great Teacher Onizuka, Nodame Cantabile, One Piece, and I grew up on Sailor Moon and Pokemon)
Is he worried that I'll be one of like, three girls there and get too much attention from other guys (especially if I cosplay)?
Is it because he wants to just have a guys' only weekend without having to worry about the gf?

What do you guys who have been to these things before think it is?

You're a true anime fan - those are very definitely great animes (minus perhaps Sailor Moon/Pokemon).

There are actually a fair number of girls that go to anime conventions, and many that cosplay in pretty...risque outfits. Unless you're dressed in a "slave Leia" type of outfit, you should be OK.

If he doesn't think you'll have fun, this could mean a few things. He may think you'll find the whole cosplay scene (and people involved) weird, or he may just think it'll be awkward introducing you to it. He may not think you'll feel comfortable among his friends. He may just be worried you'll be ogled...etc etc etc.

I've been to one before and loved it. It was a lot of fun, and I went with both girls and guys who both did and did not cosplay. I think you should give him your reasons for wanting to go and see what he thinks.
